Martina Koritnik Fajt, Retrospective

Martina Koritnik Fajt (1947−2020) has graduated in 1973 in the class of Professor Gabrijel Stupica in the Painting Department at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Ljubljana. The most noticeable influence in her artistic poetics was left by Professor Zoran Didek. As a prominent cultural and educational figure, she influenced generations of pupils at the primary schools in Kostanjevica na Krki and Podbočje. She lived in Krško. From 1993, she worked as a freelance artist and was a longstanding member of DLUD and ZDSLU.

»Painting in the moment of inspiration using quick, vigorous strokes […] was typical for her creative process. When she sensed the scene, her artistic sensibility drew a line between what she saw and what she felt that was implemented by her hand. The hypnotic nature of the strokes reflects the emotional states of the artist through the chosen subject and the use of colour to transform the forms of nature. She summarised her creative credo in 2004 with these words: "Anyone who saw me painting so quickly might have thought I was sloppy. But the visible matures 'within me'. When I sit humbly before or in nature after thirty years of serious work, it still feels like I am there for the first time. So the paintings depict a fraction of what I know and understand, what I have seen and felt." Her works reflect her personality and hold up a mirror to the inevitable cycle of life.«*
